Fire Safety Training

The purpose of fire safety training is to ensure that staff are aware of;

  1. BulletThe general fire precautions within the building.

  2. BulletAny fire hazards and risk that they are exposed to.

  3. BulletThe control measures that are in place to safeguard them and other building occupants,

Why?

The Fire Safety Order 2005 places specific fire safety duties on the ‘responsible person’. One of these duties is to ensure that all employees are provided with adequate fire safety information and training.

When?

Staff provided with adequate fire safety information and training when;

  1. BulletThey are first employed and;

  2. BulletOn being exposed to new or increased risk.

The law also requires that the training is

  1. Bulletrepeated periodically where appropriate, and

  2. Bullettakes place during working hours

What should the fire safety information & training cover?

Current guidance recommends that the training should be based on the particular features of your premises and should;

  1. BulletTake account of the findings of the fire risk assessment.

  2. BulletExplain your emergency procedures

  3. BulletTake account of the work activity and explain the duties and responsibilities of staff.

  4. BulletBe easily understood by your staff and other people who may be present and;

  5. BulletBe tested by evacuation exercises
