Fire safety legislation changed when the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 [the Fire Safety Order] came into force on 1st October 2006.
Does the Fire Safety Order affect you?
If you own or have responsibility for a building the answer is probably yes. The Fire Safety Order is applicable to the majority of premises and places specific fire safety duties on the ‘responsible person’ i.e. the person who has ‘control’ of the premises.
What must you do to comply?
You need to be able to demonstrate that you are complying with the duties set out in the Fire Safety Order. The starting point for this is the preparation of a Fire Risk Assessment that will form the basis for the management procedures and physical fire safety systems required for your premises. In simple terms the you should;
